Canada Thistle Insect Releases

3/2/2015

The district is looking for folks interested in biological control (insect releases) for Canada thistle infestations.  To apply, we’d need a location map with the section, township and range.  The releases are free, but we evaluate stands first.  This is our tenth year of these type of releases.  We need five locations this year.  Two different insects are released, generally one in July and one in August.   They are the Thistle stem mining weevil, Ceutorhynchus litura and the Thistle stem gall fly, Urophora cardui.
